Franko 2 for PC is a continuation of Franko: The Crazy Revenge, a fighting title published in 1994 on Amiga. The game was developed by World Software from Poland, which is composed of the authors of the original production.
The main hero is Franko, the protagonist from the first instalment. Due to the events that happened during the first part, he has to flee the country. Finally, after 20 years of washing dishes in Great Britain, Franko decides to go back to his hometown, Szczecin. As his turbulent past has made him the man he is, he gets into a fight with drunk passengers on the airplane. And it becomes only better – Franko meets a new, dangerous enemy that he needs to face. The title is embedded in Polish realities, therefore there are a lot of references to the landscape of contemporary Poland, such as flooded pitch on the Warsaw’s National Stadium, a brawl of Polish hooligans with Mexican seafarers, or the grain affair. The title features famous individuals from the Internet and the public life.
During gameplay, you visit ten big locations set in Polish cities and a few smaller ones (an airplane, a bus, a stadium). Gameplay largely comes down to going through 2D levels and fighting enemies with your fists. There are 30 types of opponents that not only look differently but also wield different weapons (which you can take away from them) and have various fighting styles. Defeating them rewards you with points that are summed up at the end of a level and place you in the global ranking. From time to time, Franko has to battle bosses who are much more challenging.
Graphically, Franko 2 is similar to old-school fighting titles from arcade machines. This is a 2D title with the side-view. Even though purposefully simple, the backgrounds and characters are diligently designed. The visuals have the spirit of the past and the touch of modernity. The title primarily aims at the Polish audience; therefore the characters use Polish language and use funny Polish catchphrases.
