The vast majority of tower defense type productions have accustomed us to the fact that the gameplay in them takes place on imposed maps. Split Second Games, an independent studio, decided to introduce changes in this field and, in its Hexguardian project enriching the classic gameplay scheme with roguelite elements, let us expand the locations on our own.
In Hexguardian we view the action from a bird's eye view. The gameplay takes place on procedurally generated maps, which consist of hexagonal p?l. Our primary goal is to defend against the invading enemies, which we neutralize by erecting various structures, recruiting soldiers and learning spells.
The title puts at our disposal a wide range of defensive objects, including arrow and bomb launchers, as well as more advanced flamethrowers and ice throwers. Our domains can be defended both by archers attacking at a distance and swordsmen preferring close quarters combat.
We can increase the defense potential of our kingdom by learning how to magically slow down or damage enemies and control the weather. All this is complemented by the wonders of the world providing unique powers, support buildings generating gold or finally bosses, whose defeat provides us with various blessings.
But it doesn't end there, because as we progress we unlock more "tiles" for expanding the game board. They allow us to lengthen the paths taken by our opponents or lock them in loops. It should be remembered that the terrain plays an important role here, so for example, towers should be placed on hills to increase their range.
Hexguardian can be played within two gameplay modes. In the standard one, over the course of consecutive games, we have a common technology tree, on which we unlock towers, units, upgrades and wonders. The longer we manage to hold on, the wider the range of possibilities. In addition, over time we unlock new maps and difficulty levels.
In addition, there is a challenge mode, where every week we face a new problem, relying on selected assets and using limited resources. We can show off our successes on a global ranking updated every seven days.
