Adventure game with turn-based strategy elements. In Highwater, you explore a post-apocalyptic, water-logged Earth aboard a boat and fight for survival by engaging in turn-based battles with enemies.
Highwater is an adventure game witch turn-based strategy elements. It was developed by the Demagog Studio team, known for such projects as Golf Club: Wasteland and The Cub, and was published by Rogue Games.
Highwater unfolds a grim vision of the future, in which, as a result of the Great Climate Catastrophe, the entire Earth has changed beyond recognition. Between the desolate War Zone and the fortified Alphaville, where the richest have found refuge behind gigantic walls, the flooded Hightower region spreads. The main character of the game is Nikos, who wanders this dangerous world, heading to Alphaville, where he hopes to find rescue (rumor has it that the inhabitants of this place intend to escape to Mars). Along the way, the protagonist must fight for food and eliminate enemies, but also encounters numerous friends who decide to join him.
Highwater gameplay is built, so to speak, on two pillars. The first is exploration of the game world, where we observe the action from a third-person perspective (TPP). Nikos and his entourage traverse Hightower and other regions aboard a small boat, moving from island to island. On dry land, meanwhile, we not only meet other survivors and gain valuable resources, but also have to fight the enemies we encounter. The second pillar of the gameplay are the battles, which take place in turn-based mode. While watching their progress in isometric view, we give orders to Nikos and his team. On the battlefield we use a variety of weapons and items that give us an advantage over our enemies.
Graphics in Highwater is made in a colorful, cartoonish style. The game takes place to the accompaniment of the Highwater Pirate Radio station - various broadcasts make our long journeys more pleasant and allow us to better feel the post-apocalyptic atmosphere.

Game Ratings for Highwater Video Game.
Pure Nintendo: 9 / 10 by Kirstie Summers
A very worthy addition to the Demagog repertoire, Highwater builds on the gorgeous and provocative world of the studio's other games with a story-driven escape from a flooded planet. It is a sharp critique of late stage capitalism, but it populates the devastated world with a touching story, wholesome characters, and surprisingly engaging combat.
Niche Gamer: 4 / 10 by Fingal Belmont
Highwater is not much of a strategy RPG and its story is boring. The adventure game elements are hopelessly bare and the battles are too basic to get any stimuli. It won’t interest children due to the lethargic gameplay and bleak premise, and older gamers will be desperately scraping for substance. It is a slow-moving and short game that looks and sounds kind of neat but is utterly lacking in every way imaginable.

You play as Nicos, a character in the near future on a flooded Earth. Nicos spends their day scraping by outside of Alphaville—where the privileged live (and are planning to escape the dying planet). Your objective is getting to Alphaville and aboard the rocket—to a supposedly better life. I was disappointed by most aspects of the game, and if you jumped ahead, you might be wondering why I have recommended the game, albeit on sale. It’s because the turn-based combat is so dang good!
