Horizon: Steel Frontiers is an MMORPG serving as a spin-off to Sony's best-selling series, created by NCSoft (devs of the Lineage series). In this game, we can create our own character and begin exploring the Deadlands. The game features encounters with various machines, as well as with other players, allowing us to either compete or cooperate with them.
After the release of Horizon: Zero Dawn, an action-adventure science fiction game from Guerrilla Games, the brand has grown to become one of the most important in Sony Interactive Entertainment's portfolio. Over the years, Aloy's adventure has not only received a sequel but also spin-offs. Among them is Horizon: Steel Frontiers - an MMORPG developed by NCSoft from South Korea, known primarily for the Lineage series. This was done with support from the Guerrilla Games team.
Similar to the original, the action in Horizon: Steel Frontiers is viewed from a third-person perspective (TPP).
The game allows us to create our own character and decide on their appearance (choosing facial features, body type, hairstyle, and makeup), as well as their affiliation with one of the tribes inhabiting the post-apocalyptic world (Nora, Tenakth, Utaru, Oseram).
The developers provided us with an open-structured map called Deadlands, inspired by Arizona and New Mexico. As we explore it (on foot or on the backs of selected machines that we can use as mounts), we meet its inhabitants, complete various quests, and engage in combat with opponents. Complementing all this are large-scale raids.
On our path, we encounter both robots resembling animals and dinosaurs that have taken over the Earth, as well as hostile characters and heroes controlled by other players. Just like in the original game, the battles are dynamic, requiring us to stay in constant motion, avoid attacks, and deliver precise counters. On the battlefield, we use melee and ranged weapons, as well as various traps, with the key to success being targeting the weak points of enemies. A new feature is the ability to climb mechanical beasts. Additionally, there is the option to pick up and use weapons torn from them.
Naturally, a character development system is also implemented, allowing us to equip our character with increasingly better gear as we progress.
Horizon: Steel Frontiers is designed exclusively for online multiplayer gameplay. We can both cooperate and compete with other players.
