It might seem that Russian roulette is based on such simple rules and nothing new can be introduced. We first found out that this was not true in December 2023, when the game Buckshot Roulette debuted.

Over time, the independent studio Pili Starship, which is behind the game Hunter Roulette described here, also contributed its two cents to this topic. The game eludes clear genre classification and it lies somewhere on the border of a simulation and a strategy title.

Gameplay

In Hunter Roulette we watch the action from a first-person perspective (FPP). The game transports us to a post-apocalyptic, cyberpunk world, where life unfolds under the irradiated surface of the Earth. The titular game of life and death serves as a source of entertainment for those who managed to survive.

Attempt at luck

At first glance, the gameplay in Hunter Roulette does not differ from what we know from Russian roulette. During the "game", we sit at the table with other daredevils and hold a gun loaded with blanks and real bullets in our hand. If we are lucky, after aiming at our own head and pulling the trigger, the gun will not fire, and we will have the opportunity to take another shot. However, if we are less lucky, we will get shot, reducing our health indicator.

Choosing us or our opponent

Hunter Roulette differs in many ways from the original game. It allows us to compete not only with ourselves, but also with other participants of the game. We can form alliances with players aimed at specific participants. This is done while being careful not to fall victim to betrayal. On the other hand, we can also turn against our own allies.

Gameplay modifications

A single shot does not end our life here, but only takes away one of the hearts symbolizing our "health" level. Although emptying this indicator means the end of the game, thanks to so-called Frenzy Points, we can attack even when we have 0 HP.
