An action adventure game with survival elements, which is a spin-off of the Into the Dead series. In Into the Dead: Our Darkest Days, we play the role of an ordinary man who, along with others like him, fights for survival in a world overrun by the living dead.
Into the Dead: Our Darkest Days is a spin-off of the series launched in 2012, behind which is the PikPok company. This time the creators embarked on a much more ambitious project; for we are dealing with an action adventure game with survival elements, in which the question of survival of a whole group of survivors of the zombie apocalypse rests on our shoulders.
Plot
Into the Dead: Our Darkest Days takes us on a journey to 1980 Texas, more precisely - to the coastal metropolis of Walton City. A worry of a much higher caliber has fallen on its residents struggling with a heat wave and a progressive economic crisis. A mysterious disease has reached the city, turning people into bloodthirsty zombies, as a result of which Walton City was quickly overrun by hordes of the living dead. We play the role of one of the survivors. Our task is to ensure that the entire group can survive and find a way out of the city, where a safe zone is supposedly waiting for them, and thus - the last chance for rescue. Along the way, we come to make a series of difficult choices; it's up to us to preserve our humanity, or, on the contrary, to care only about our own skin, heading for the goal after dead bodies.
Mechanics
Into the Dead: Our Darkest Days is a side-scroller. We are mainly engaged in roaming the city in search of resources necessary for survival, building shelters and rescuing other survivors during the gameplay.... or getting rid of them to loot their possessions. Survival in Walton City is not easy, as its streets and buildings are infested with the living dead; other evil people, who feel like fish in water in this brutal world, can also pose a threat to the heroes. Although we can defend ourselves from individual opponents using found (or self-created) weapons, an encounter with a whole group of them can end tragically for us. For this reason, most of the time we operate quietly, trying not to attract the attention of adversaries; if necessary, we can also escape. Although we unlock new skills as we progress, allowing us to face more and more challenges, we are motivated to take our next steps prudently by the fact that the death of characters here is permanent.
No matter how well we would do, as time goes by, more and more enemies appear in the various districts of Walton City, making it increasingly difficult to sweep the city in search of supplies. In addition, even if we take proper care of the defense of our hideout, as we progress the growing threat from "walkers" will still force us to abandon our current camp and move to a slightly safer place.
Although the group we have to take care of is made up of a variety of people, it is in vain to find among them the "tough guys" known from zombie movies or games. The need to take care of the physical and mental health of our charges also plays an important role here, so that in the moment of trial they are not paralyzed by fear or fatigue.
Technical aspects
Into the Dead: Our Darkest Days features good quality graphics. Above all, the atmospheric locations, often bathed in darkness, are to be liked.
