Jak and Daxter Video Game Series
A series of action platform games, considered the "spiritual heir" to the Crash Bandicoot series. The brand was created by Naughty Dog studio with publishing support from Sony Computer Entertainment.
The idea behind the Jak and Daxter series was born while the studio was working on Crash Team Racing. The intention of developers from Naughty Dog was to create a platformer that would go beyond the usual schemes thanks to an open world structure and extensive levels. Sony Computer Entertainment saw this as an opportunity to showcase the technical capabilities of the PlayStation 2 console.Ultimately, Jak and Daxter: The Precursor Legacy was released in 2001. The game got very good scores, which resulted in high sales (more than 1 million copies in a year after the release). We didn't have to wait long for the next games - Jak II and Jak 3 were released in 2003 and 2004, respectively. Naughty Dog's last game in the series was the spin-off Jak X: Combat Racing (2005). After that, Ready at Dawn and High Impact Games studios took over the series. The results were the games Daxter (2006) and Jak and Daxter: The Lost Frontier (2009).
The Jak and Daxter series takes place on a distant, unnamed planet. The main characters - the green-haired Jak and his best friend Daxter (accidentally transformed into a cross between an otter and a weasel) try to discover the secrets of their world and solve the mysteries left by the Precursors.
The games take place in an open world. The player explores sizable locations looking for Precursor Orbs. The main character overcoms obstacles and fights opponents with abilities like a double jump, powerful attacks and the ability to use Eco, a powerful substance.
From the very beginning, the games in the Jak and Daxter series were created with an intention to push the hardware platforms to the maximum limits. As a result, they are distinguished by high-quality, three-dimensional graphics generated powered by the Kinetica engine. The music was composed by Mark Mothersbaugh, Josh Mancell and Larry Hopkins.
