A fantasy-based strategy game that combines turn-based exploration with real-time battles. The action takes place in the world of Urak, in which 8 different religions coexist. When the evil Lord Balkoth wants to destroy other religions in the name of his own god, representatives of other religions must join forces in the fight against the common enemy.
Lords of Magic is a high fantasy strategy game, a combination of classic turn-based gameplay in the style of Heroes of Might & Magic with real-time battles. Impressions Games team is responsible for creating the game, known mainly for Caesar and Lords of the Realm series.
The action of the game takes us to the fantastic world of Urak, in which eight different religions coexist, connected with eight elements: water, fire, air, earth, order, chaos, life and death. Each of them has its opposite religion, and the advocates of both religions fight with each other eternal, fierce battles. The order, which has been going on for centuries, destroys the temptations of the evil Lord Balkoth, who wants to destroy all other religions in the name of his god Golgotha. In spite of the conflicts, the representatives of the seven remaining faiths must unite and fight against the common enemy.
The game takes place on one huge map, and depending on the faction chosen at the beginning, we start the game from another place. Of course, we also have slightly different types of heroes, units and spells. In the ranks of the army we can embody mercenaries of different races, such as people, elves, dwarves, gnomes, trolls, lizards, dragons, etc. It is headed by heroes who belong to one of the three classes (warrior, mage or thief), which determines the range of their special skills. The first task of each of the lords is to find and liberate a temple that is specific to each religion. Then we will build a fortress and the capital of our faction, in the heart of which, thanks to various buildings (such as the tavern, bazaar or town hall), we will be able to exchange raw materials and strengthen the ranks of our army.
Lords of Magic could be described as a combination of solutions known from the Heroes of Might & Magic series and Lords of the Realm. The main part of the game takes place in a turn-based system, in which the exploration, trade or expansion of our headquarters takes place. Battles are played in real time, although during the game we can pause the game and give new orders to our troops, depending on the development of the situation on the battlefield.
Lords of Magic is characterized by aesthetic, three-dimensional graphics, standing at a high level. The creators also took care of a built-in map editor and multiplayer options for max. 4 people (offline or online). In 1998 a special edition of the game was published, including the extension of Legends of Urak. It introduces, among other things, an improved editor, new scenarios and previously unavailable buildings and monsters.
