Magicite is a hybrid of roguelike and classic platform game, designed for multiplayer gameplay. The game was developed by the independent studio SmashGames, and its creation was possible thanks to a successful crowdfunding campaign on Kickstarter.
Magicite takes us on a journey to a fantasy land whose inhabitants enjoyed a life of happiness and abundance. When the forces of evil took over the world, those who managed to survive hid in the undergrounds. Among them, there was no shortage of daredevils who explored the secrets hidden by the vast labyrinths, regardless of the dangers lurking in the darkness; the players take on the role of one of such characters.
We start the game by selecting a hero and drawing perks to increase the base values of character's attributes or to give us bonuses to make the game a little easier. Then we can move on to the right game, whose formula is based on solutions characteristic for the genre of roguelikes. Exploration of successive levels of randomly generated undergrounds, fighting enemies, gaining more and more powerful weaponry and character progression play a leading role.
But that's not all, because the labyrinths are full of traps to avoid and platforms to jump on. In addition, since we begin the game armed only with an axe, we have to constantly supply ourselves the resources necessary to create new equipment using an extensive crafting system; apart from wood, we collect things like minerals and parts of the bodies of slaughtered monsters. The whole thing is complicated by permadeath mechanics, through which we face the necessity to start the adventure from scratch after death.
Although Magicite can be played solo, the title spreads its wings while playing with other in the co-op multiplayer mode.
Audiovisuals of Magicite draw from 8 and 16-bit titles - this applies primarily to pixelart graphics, although the sound layer features also the characteristic, chiptune sounds.
