MIO: Memories in Orbit is a metroidvania-style action platforming game, in which as a small robot we explore a gigantic spaceship to restore its former glory. The game features a side-scrolling adventure and is reminiscent of the Ori series. Its development was handled by the independent French studio Douze Dixiemes - they are the creators of Shady Part of Me.

Gameplay

The structure of MIO: Memories in Orbit resembles many other 2D metroidvania-style games. As a nimble little robot, we run and jump around the map, eliminating smaller enemies, and then discovering a secret boss. Precise movement is crucial for the gameplay. Apart from using skillful double jumps, we cling to points like Spider-Man and cut crystals to charge energy.

The A.V. Club:

For a game to break through it has to be not just good, but unique. It has to marry smart, proficient design with a legitimately interesting and distinctive story and aesthetic. It’s a high bar and MIO: Memories In Orbit sails right over it. There are no humans in its sci-fi, but sci-fi is rarely this human—the hands of its designers rarely this evident in a game.
