Once Human is an open-world multiplayer action game. The game, set in a post-apocalyptic setting, is presented in a first-person perspective and focuses on combat, resource gathering and shelter expansion. It was developed by Starry studio.

Plot

In a dark version of the future, a cosmic entity called Stardust has contaminated the world, bringing the apocalypse upon it. The entity instantly infected plants, animals and humans, leading to mutations that created constantly evolving nightmare-like creatures.

However, not everyone succumbed to the cosmic influence; some people showed resilience and even gained the ability to use the alien force for their own ends. This gave rise to factions, among which appeared peace-fighting idealists, ruthless bandits or visionaries wishing to build a new civilization thanks to Stardust.

  • Gameplay Variety: The game offers a mix of survival, exploration, and combat, with a variety of activities including quests, farming, and events that keep gameplay engaging.
  • Community and Multiplayer Experience: Many users highlight the friendly and helpful community, making it enjoyable to play cooperatively with friends.
  • Free-to-Play Model: The game is noted for not being pay-to-win, with microtransactions primarily focused on cosmetics rather than gameplay advantages.

The main cons of the game

  • Repetitive Gameplay: Several players mention that the game can become repetitive over time, especially due to the "rinse and repeat" nature of grinding and resets.
  • Server Resets: The frequent resets of servers, which result in loss of progress, frustrate many players. This leads to a feeling of pointless grinding for items and levels that will eventually be wiped.
  • Confusing Interface and Mechanics: Users express that the game's interface is cluttered and that many mechanics are not intuitive, making it difficult for new players to navigate.
  • Lag and Technical Issues: Reports of lag and bugs affecting gameplay experience are common, with some players experiencing significant performance issues.

  • Clear Progression System: Players desire a more straightforward and rewarding progression system that does not reset frequently, allowing for a more meaningful long-term investment in their characters and builds.
  • Better Communication of Mechanics: Users mention a need for clearer tutorials and guidance on game mechanics, as many found the learning curve steep and overwhelming.
  • More Affordable Cosmetics: There are requests for more affordable cosmetic options, as some players find the current pricing for skins and items to be excessive.
  • Expanded Content: Some users express a desire for more content, including new maps, quests, and features to keep the game fresh and engaging over time.

Summary

  • Overall, "Once Human" has a solid foundation with its engaging gameplay and beautiful aesthetics, but it faces criticisms related to repetitiveness, server management, and user interface complexity. Players appreciate the community aspect and the free-to-play model but desire improvements in clarity, progression, and content variety.
