A 2D platformer, focused around making choices and dealing with their consequences and how they can change the world. In Peppered: an existential platformer our failure doesn't have to mean the end of the game. We can continue the story, however it may turn in a direction we won't like.
Peppered: an existential platformer is a platforming game in which our actions affect the course of the gameplay and the story, as well as its ending. The game was developed by the independent studio Mostly Games, and its release was made possible partially thanks to a successful crowdfunding campaign on Kickstarter.
In Peppered: an existential platformer we watch the action from the side.
At first glance, the game doesn't differ much from other platformers. The adventure leads us through such locations as the colonized City of the Abyss (once a land of the dead), sunny Beach City, modern Megalopolis, or the devastated Castle of the God of Death.
We go through levels, jumping on platforms, avoiding traps and bypassing terrain obstacles. In addition to this, we interact with NPCs (for whom we perform various quests), and we also face opponents, among whom powerful bosses are the most prominent.
There are also stealth sections here, where we have to act quietly, sneaking behind the enemies and not getting caught. The icing on the cake are the mini-games that provide additional variety.
Compared to most titles from this genre, the game stands out for the necessity of making decisions that influence how the fate of the hero unfolds and what challenges he will have to face.
Our successes and failures have consequences. The game does not force us to restart when we can't deal with a problem. Instead, the adventure continues, taking into account that we were not sufficiently effective in a given situation. This applies to both failed attempts to carry out certain missions, and being defeated by selected enemies.
All this makes each adventure here look slightly different from the previous one.
Peppered: an existential platformer takes us to a distant planet inhabited by anthropomorphic animals. The God of Death is in prison and therefore all living beings can enjoy immortality. The only condition is the annual repetition of a special ritual.
Theodore Glagolev, who is in charge of conducting the ceremony, disappears without a trace on the hundredth anniversary of this event. The fate of all the inhabitants of the globe rests on the shoulders of a simple office intern, whom we embody. It depends on us how the protagonist will handle the task of saving the world (and whether he will be able to do it at all).
The graphic design of Peppered: an existential platformer was created using pixel art technique.
