Petal Runner

The indie team at Nano Park Studios for their debut project chose something that combines the aesthetics of Game Boy Color with ideas borrowed from Pokemon and WarioWare series.

We're talking about an adventure game with RPG elements titled Petal Runner, in which we end up in the futuristic city of Sapphire Valley as a young girl named Cali. The protagonist begins her adventure in the role of the titular courier delivering Leap Cells (energy sources made from flowers) to owners of digital pets called HanaPets.

Over time, the protagonist uncovers a secret hidden by the manufacturer of these devices, whose pursuit of progress threatens older models. Our character is not alone in this, as she is accompanied by Kira - a first-generation HanaPet, and their mutual relationship is at the heart of the story.

Gameplay

In Petal Runner we watch the action from a bird's eye view.

Open world adventure

The game provides us with an open world, which we traverse on a motorcycle. The driving model is arcade and efforts have been made to make it as responsive as possible. The city was divided into diverse districts, and while exploring them, we complete orders, get to know its inhabitants, and also perform side quests.

Minigames

The Leap Cells compilation was presented in the form of mini-games reminiscent of WarioWare. These are short and dynamic challenges, some of which are associated with specific HanaPets. They allow us to try our hand at feeding giraffes or to show our skills when attempting to land with a parachute.

Mentors and badges

A special mention should be made to mentors, from whom we can learn. Thanks to them, over time we gain new courier skills, and we can also try out subsequent mini-games. As we progress, we also earn badges, among which the prestigious Prosperity Badge leads the way.
