A combination of a strategy game, an RPG, a survival title and a card game, heavily focused on Slavic folklore. Project Thea takes us to a post-apocalyptic world combining magic with technology and featuring humans and mythical creatures living together. We can explore the world alone or in online coop.
Project Thea is a game that combines features from a number of genres - from strategies and RPGs, through survival titles, ending with card games and roguelikes. It is the third installment of the series initiated in 2015, and it was developed by MuHa Games studios (authors of the two games) along with Eerie Forest Studio.
Project Thea transports us to a post-apocalyptic universe, where magic intertwines with technology, and people live alongside creatures from Slavic myths and folklore. During the game we take on the character who manages a colony as part of the Ostoya Project. Our primary goal is to ensure its survival and development.
The story told in the game branches out as we progress, and the path it follows largely depends on our decisions.
We start in Project Thea with character creation. The game allows us to decide on gender, appearance, origin, as well as class and skills. The gameplay itself takes place on a map that we view from a bird's eye perspective. As we explore it, we discover locations, gather resources, complete quests and participate in events.
We gradually get to know the inhabitants of the post-apocalyptic land, among which creatures from Slavic legends, such as Baba Yaga (running a mobile ice cream parlor), Czort (acting as a cunning lawyer), as well as Strzyga, Leszy or Poludnica, are leading. Over time we also get to know potential allies with their own history and personality, as well as with individual skills. We can recruit them to our team.
We regularly have to fight in the game. Battles take place in turn-based mode, and during them we play cards associated with specific attacks or moves. From time to time, we also have to face challenges unrelated to combat, in which the success of our actions is determined by a roll of the dice (although the game allows us to increase our chances of success by using certain cards).
As we progress, our character and their team grow stronger, improving their skills and expanding their deck of cards, as well as gathering better equipment (which we can produce ourselves). While traversing the wastelands, we should not forget about our headquarters. It is worth returning to the colony as often as possible to erect useful buildings, supply energy shards to the generator that powers the entire local infrastructure, and also keep an eye on the actions of the council overseeing the city.
Project Thea allows for single player fun or cooperative gameplay for two people over the Internet.
