Railway Empire 2: Journey to the East

Railway Empire 2: Journey to the East is an expansion to the economic strategy Railway Empire 2 released in May 2023. The DLC was developed by the authors of the base version, namely the Gaming Minds Studios team.

As the title suggests, the add-on allows us to turn our gaze to the East. Our task is to connect European capitals with the Ottoman Empire, leading a railway route from Vienna, through the Carpathians and the Balkans, ending with Constantinople.

Mechanics

Railway Empire 2: Journey to the East introduces a number of new features. The title scenario (Journey to the East) takes place in 1881-1890. It offers a new map of the region - the Balkans - along with previously inaccessible city buildings and a station building. Additionally, the add-on brings a new mechanic of a luxury rail line, operating between the Danube and the Bosporus since 1870. It can be a profitable source of income for us.

The expansion introduces over 10 new luxury goods, such as olives, golden honey and carpets, as well as 6 previously unavailable locomotives, led by the S 3/6 and the so-called "Carpathian Pride" - the CFR 142.

Game modes

Just like the base game, Railway Empire 2: Journey to the East can be played alone or in online co-op.

Technical aspects

Railway Empire 2: Journey to the East is a non-standalone expansion, so it requires the base version of the game to run. The add-on does not introduce changes in the visual layer, however, for its needs, 10 new musical pieces and 19 tunes were prepared.
