The sixth expansion for the railway-themed economic strategy from Gaming Minds Studios. Railway Empire 2: Steel Dragons DLC focuses on building a railway network in China. There's a large new map, three new scenarios, as well as unique locomotives and products specific to the Middle Kingdom region.
In 2023, the team at Gaming Minds Studios and the company Kalypso Media released an economic strategy game focused on railway transport, titled Railway Empire 2. Over the following months and consequently years, it received a series of expansions, the sixth of which is Railway Empire 2: Steel Dragons described here.
Railway Empire 2: Steel Dragons takes us to China. The expansion allows us to oversee the construction of the largest railway network in the world, connecting the most important cities and industrial sectors across the Middle Kingdom.
For the expansion, an extensive regional map of China was prepared, along with five smaller, separate locations. The new area covers territory stretching from the mountains in the west, through the banks of the Yellow River, to the coast of the East China Sea.
The DLC features Zhan Tianyou, a historical figure known as the "father of Chinese railways," as well as real landmarks, including the Great Wall and the Temple of Heaven. It also includes authentic cities such as Shanghai, Beijing, and Lanzhou. Three new scenarios are set in these locations: Humble Beginnings (1880), Journey to the West (1890), and Of Bicycles and Fireworks (1900).
Real locomotives produced in the Middle Kingdom, such as the "Rocket of China" and Shengli 8, are waiting to be tested. They power trains that can transport 20 new regional products, including fireworks, bamboo, gunpowder, silk products, and traditional medicine.
Complementing all of this are specially composed musical pieces and jingles inspired by traditional Chinese music.
Railway Empire 2: Steel Dragons is a non-standalone expansion pack, so it requires the base version of the game Railway Empire 2.
