Rebel Cops is a side part of the This is the Police series from the Belarusian team Weappy Studios. This time instead of a mixture of adventure and strategy we get a tactical game in the style of Desperados or Commandos. The title was published by THQ Nordic.
Plot
Rebel Cops tells the story of the fictional American town of Ripton. The city became the domain of the brutal mafia led by Viktor Zuev, who gained both the city authorities and the police. However, not everyone wants to passively observe the actions of criminals. A group of rebellious officers takes off a hopeless fight against criminals.
Mechanics
Following the example of other tactical strategies, the action in Rebel Cops was presented in isometric view. The game is divided into missions, in which we control a group of heroes and perform specific tasks. These will allow us to undermine the foundations of Viktor Zuev's criminal empire.
In accordance with the patterns of the genre, the title emphasizes the avoidance of open conflict. Enemies on the boards are usually more than our charges, which effectively discourages the frontal attack. What's more, none of the characters have a classic life bar - each shot can be fatal and even in the best case a gunshot wound will cause the hero to bleed to death quickly unless he gets immediate help. Therefore we concentrate on planning and silent dealing with our opponents, either by arresting them, or by a fast shooting of a deliverer, before he notifies the remaining guards.
Our mission is to get loot that can be sold on the black market. We spend the obtained funds on the purchase of new equipment: weapons, lockouts, first-aid kits, etc. We also spend the money on the purchase of new equipment. Our charges also learn new talents, which makes it easier to perform subsequent tasks. In addition, in the break between the missions of the main thread we can go on a wandering around the open location. Such a trip also allows you to obtain funds for further shopping, and in addition, we can hit the side tasks in which we help the residents.
Currency and equipment are not the only things we get during the game. The creators of Rebel Cops have implemented a reputation system. Our actions in each mission will influence the perception of us by the people of Ripton. As a group of renegades, heroes cannot count on ex-officio support, so it is our reputation among the community that decides whether its members are willing to help. If we keep all our prey to ourselves, ignore side missions, and in the course of tasks we wrap our lives around civilians, people will not give us warm feelings. Sellers will refuse to trade with us, and more law-abiding members of our team will turn against us.
Technical aspects
Rebel Corps does not differ graphically from the main installments of the series This is the Police, using a simple but meaningful visual setting.
