Commandos Video Game Series
Commandos
A series of tactical real-time strategy games, started by the 1998 released game Commandos: Behind Enemy Lines by the Spanish team Pyro Studios. Since then, the series has lived to see three main parts and one spin-off, behind which were the authors of the original, as well as a remastered version of the cult "two", created by the team of Yippee! Entertainment.
Games under the banner of Commandos take us to the times of World War II. In each of them we take control of a squad of the titular commandos and carry out seemingly impossible missions that take us to various corners of the world - from Norway, North Africa or even France (in the first installment of the series), through Asia and the Arctic (in the second part of the series), ending with Normandy and Stalingrad (available in "three"). Among the tasks we face the elimination of specific targets and the destruction of objects of strategic importance is the forefront, but we often have to take part in more complex missions, including the theft of secret documents or defense against enemy attacks.
In the main parts of the series during the game we observe the action from a bird's eye view, which allows us to discern the situation and plan our next actions. After all, the tasks are not easy, and during them it is not difficult for our subordinates to die, as the maps are swarming with enemies. Therefore, we have to carefully place our next steps, act quietly and use the individual abilities of each commando in such a way that they complement each other on the battlefield (for example, a sniper will be useful for something completely different from a sapper or a spy). W Commandos: Strike Force on the other hand, we observe events from a first-person perspective. Despite this change, the production remained faithful to the spirit of the series, so we get three different characters at our disposal, and the subsequent missions require us not only to have a sharp eye, but also to demonstrate our tactical sense.
In addition to the extensive story campaigns in the games of the series Commandos we will find multiplayer modes, which allow joint play over the Internet or in a local network. As for the visuals - although the release of the last part of the main trilogy took place in 2003, it managed to stand the test of time well. After the introduction of minor polishes, the visual layer of these productions can still please the eye, as proven by the remaster of "two" released in January 2020. Commandos: Strike Force on the other hand, has aged quite noticeably, especially since already at the time of its release it did not stand out above what players were accustomed to by other FPSs of the era.
The first game in the series Commandos, namely Commandos: Behind Enemy Lines, made its debut on personal computers in June 1998. The production was a great artistic and commercial success, so in September 2001 the Pyro Studios team gave players a PC version of its sequel, the Commandos 2: Men of Courage, which was still coming to PlayStation 2 and Xbox in 2002. In October 2003, only on personal computers the game appeared Commandos 3: Destination Berlin, while in March 2006 an FPS spin-off of the series arrived on PC and consoles (again, we're talking about PlayStation 2 and Xbox) - Commandos: Strike Force. Commandos: Strike Force. The latter production did not appeal to players not only because of the drastic change in the formula, but also because of the technical problems plaguing it.
After its release, there was a years-long silence on the topic of brand development, which was only broken in 2018 by Kalypso Media. Announcing the acquisition of the rights from the Pyro Studios team, the publisher announced that the series would get a completely new installment. But first, in January 2020, it received a remastered version of its second installment, the Commandos 2: HD Remaster. Compared to the original, it stood out not only due to improved graphics, but also due to .... censorship, including the removal of symbols of Nazi Germany and the Empire of Great Japan. In addition, the whole thing was decided to make it softer, resulting, among other things, in the deletion of the animation of burning enemies attacked with a flamethrower. To top it all off, the title was truncated from the cooperative multiplayer mode present in the original.

Complete edition of the first three parts of the popular Commandos series, created by the Spanish Pyro Studios team. The series is a highly original combination of tactical real-time strategy with elements of action games, and during the game we take control over a squad of commandos with different skills, performing a number of extremely dangerous missions in the enemy's rear. The key to success is the ability to properly use the skills of individual soldiers and coordinate their actions.

March 17, 2006
A new installment of the popular series from Pyro Studios, in which we take control of a unit of specially trained soldiers, sent to complete various tasks that help turn the tide of World War II. While developing Commandos: Strike Force, Pyro Studios decided to try a somewhat different approach, ending with a tactical action game seen from a first-person perspective instead of a classical tactical strategy game that the series has accustomed us to. This time, we assume control of a trio of characters, i.e. a green beret, a sniper, and a spy, with each of them having their own, distinctive set of abilities. The key to success is to observe your surroundings and a use each hero’s abilities in the right way. We are left with a number of varied tasks, taking place in Soviet Union, Norway, and France, and allowing the player a freedom of choosing a right approach to the task.
Commandos 3: Destination Berlin
Strategy
October 15, 2003
The third installment in a series of tactical strategy games set in the World War II, as always created by Spanish developer Pyro Studios. Commandos 3: Destination Berlin places you as the leader of a six-men squad of special soldiers, whom the fans know from the first game in the series. Each of them has unique skills and specialization. The game offers 20 varying missions, split into four mini-campaigns: London, Normandy, France and Germany, and Stalingrad. Some of the objectives you must complete are e.g. the well-known search-and-destroy type of missions as well as some brand new ones, such as defending an Allied general from paratrooper landing, ambushing a German convoy, or capturing a train full of Nazis on its way from France to Germany. Mission structure has been overhauled and, in effect, maps are now divided into smaller sections. Commandos 3: Destination Berlin also offers more action and with each passing mission the player has to come up with new tactics and ideas. On top of that the developers implemented improved enemy AI and clearly better graphics.
Commandos 2: Men of Courage
Strategy
September 21, 2001
The sequel of the popular turn-based tactics game from 1998, developed by Spanish Pyro Studios. In Commandos 2: Men of Courage we take over a squad of well-trained commandos, sent to complete various missions behind enemy lines. The group now consists of a green beret, a sapper, a spy, a driver, a sniper, and a diver, with occasional appearances of Natasha, a seductress, and Whiskey, a dog, which is a completely new addition to the series. Each of the characters has his own set of skills, which are often indispensable for the mission to end with victory. The game contains 10 complex levels taking place all around the world, and divided into a number of smaller segments. Our commandos can now move around interiors (including a submarine), and have new skills and movement options. The game is powered by an improved graphical engine that offers various zoom levels, and four different camera shots (every 90 degrees).
Commandos: Behind Enemy Lines
Strategy
June 30, 1998
A turn-based tactics game set in the World War II, created by Spanish developer Pyro Studios. In Commandos: Behind Enemy Lines you take command of a small squad of specially trained soldiers sent on a variety of high-risk missions behind enemy lines. The game offers 25 missions with varying objectives and difficulty levels. One of the characteristic features of Commandos: Behind Enemy Lines is the fact that each member of the team has different skills. The key to success in most missions lies in using them in a smart and synchronized way. Your team is composed of a variety of commandos: a green beret, a driver, a diver, a minesweeper, a sniper, and a spy – each of them has unique skills not available for the rest. For this reason keeping all your men alive is essential for completing each mission – loosing just one of them makes reaching your objectives impossible.
