Although combining elements taken from action RPGs, twin-stick shooters and car action games with a dash of racing may seem like a rather exotic idea, Brazil's Rastrolabs Games Studio decided to put it into practice. The result of this endeavor is RoadOut.
In RoadOut, events are viewed in a top-down view, with the ability to rotate the camera. While wandering through the post-apocalyptic world, we get to know its inhabitants, make deals with the factions shaking it (Wasteheads, SaibaKuran and Order of the New Code), as well as perform tasks, thanks to which our position in the world grows and we can develop.
The adventure leads through a variety of locations, from devastated city centers to wilderness areas and underground. The protagonist can move through the visited locations both on foot and behind the wheel of a vehicle.
In both cases she has a wide range of weapons and combat skills at her disposal, thanks to which she can fight dynamic battles with bandits or aggressive creatures. In addition to weapons for short and long-range attacks, the protagonist uses, among other things, a shield, and increases her combat potential by taking drugs.
An important role is played by the crafting system, which allows the creation of new weapons and drugs. In addition, the development of the character takes place through modifications to his body, as well as installing various implants and unlocking skills.
We can also upgrade the car to make it more resistant to enemy attacks, better able to cope with difficult terrain and adverse weather conditions and faster. The latter is especially useful when you want to take part in one of the races played in various biomes and other types of competition in specially prepared arenas.
RoadOut takes us to a post-apocalyptic world destroyed by a major cataclysm. It is ruled by artificial intelligence, from which groups of rebels are hiding in a desert area called The Dead Zone. The game's main protagonist is Claire, a mercenary working on the black market, parlaying deliveries, sabotage and contract killings. Her life changes dramatically when she learns that something connects her to the rise of the AI.
The graphic design of the RoadOut game was made using pixel art.
