Rune Factory: Guardians of Azuma is a farming RPG, belonging to a series that started in 2006. The game was developed by Marvelous studio, and its release was handled by XSEED Games company. Like previous installments in the series, the game stands out from other representatives of the genre due to its greater emphasis on action.

Plot

Rune Factory: Guardians of Azuma takes us to a fantasy universe, or more precisely – to the eastern land of Azuma. This area was hit by a cataclysm known as the Celestial Collapse, as a result of which the earth was shattered into pieces, the power flowing from the runes faded, and the deities of nature disappeared, making way for the spreading corruption.

However, not all is lost, because during the game we take on the role of an Earth Dancer character who is gifted with supernatural powers. From now on, their task is to rebuild Azuma, deal with the corruption, and make this land pulse with life again.

NintendoWorldReport: 8.5 / 10 by Jordan Rudek

The farming and construction mechanics are designed for expedience and ease of use, exchanging realism for simplicity, a real bargain given the satisfying main story and likeable characters. Even the helper/partner Woolby ended up growing on me by the time I had rolled credits. Guardians of Azuma may do as much to spoil farming games as invite players to earlier Rune Factory entries, but it's a worthwhile dance that marches to the beat of its own, confident drum, and I'm hopeful we'll see more like it.

Impulsegamer: 4 / 5

Rune Factory: Guardians of Azuma is a heartfelt evolution of the franchise that doesn't just ride the coattails of the Switch 2's hardware, but rather embraces it. With accessible-yet-deep gameplay, richly drawn characters and a world that feels both mythic and lived-in, it offers a standout launch experience for newcomers and veterans alike. Whether you're here to swing a blade, rebuild a village, or fall in love beneath the sakura trees, Azuma is well worth the journey.

Checkpoint Gaming: 8 / 10 by Victor Tan

Rune Factory: Guardians of Azuma perfectly blends the farming and combat experience with Japanese influences. The result is an immersive cultural experience that you don't want to put down. You actually feel like you are rebuilding villages and restoring prosperity to the land instead of just being a landowner. While it isn't perfect despite several improvements to the formula, it nevertheless delivers a fun experience that you won't soon forget.
