A 3D action platformer based on the famous cartoon. SpongeBob Squarepants: Titans of the Tide features SpongeBob and Patrick Star as the main protagonists. We can switch between them - one of them will have a physical body, while the other one will remain as a ghost. Our heroes must solve puzzles and fight enemies to save Bikini Bottom.
SpongeBob SquarePants has received solid representation in the video game industry. The Austrian Purple Lamp Studios deserves considerable credit for this, having provided the 3D platforming games titled SpongeBob SquarePants: Battle for Bikini Bottom - Rehydrated and SpongeBob SquarePants: The Cosmic Shake. Over time, a third title joined this group, namely the SpongeBob Squarepants: Titans of the Tide described here.
Similar to previous games under this banner, in SpongeBob Squarepants: Titans of the Tide, we view the action from a third-person perspective (TPP).
The plot of the game revolves around the Flying Dutchman and King Neptune, or rather the consequences of their clash, which causes chaos throughout Bikini Bottom, turning its inhabitants into ghosts. SpongeBob SquarePants and Patrick Star must join forces and set off to rescue the underwater kingdom before it turns into a wasteland.
The situation is complicated by the fact that as a result of all the confusion, at any given moment only one of our protagonists can have a physical body, while the other must make do with the form of a ghost. This directly translates into gameplay focused on the cooperation between the heroes.
We can freely switch between protagonists during the game. Most of SpongeBob and Patrick's skills are universal and well known to fans of the series. Both of them can slide on inclined surfaces, roll on huge balls or surf on a board. Nonetheless, there are novelties here. For example, Patrick can now catch objects (even those in motion) or bury himself in the sand (and to emerge from it behind the enemy backs).
The adventure leads us through various locations, such as Neptune's palace, the city of Atlantis, or Bikini Bottom. As we explore them, we jump on platforms, avoid traps, and bypass terrain obstacles, as well as confront enemies. There are bosses in the game, including two main antagonists behind all the turmoil in Bikini Bottom. There are also environmental puzzles here.

Game Ratings for SpongeBob SquarePants: Titans of the Tide Video Game.
Gaming Age: 7.5 / 10 by Matthew Pollesel
SpongeBob SquarePants: Titans of the Tide is kind of like comfort food for 3D platforming fans. Even if you aren’t a fan of the TV series, it still delivers the kind of action you want with a minimum of fuss, and it’s not like you need to know the show very well to keep up with what’s going on. It wraps all that up in a solidly competent package, which means that if you’re a fan of the genre, you could do a lot worse than picking this up.
GameSpew: 9 / 10 by Kim Snaith
Its ridiculous advert starring David Hasselhoff isn't the only brilliant thing about SpongeBob SquarePants: Titans of the Tide. This is an excellent platforming adventure, featuring a great mix of character skills, fantastic level design and plenty of side quests. Even if you're not a fan of SpongeBob, there's a lot here to love.

I don’t think that SpongeBob SquarePants: Titans of the Tide is as memorable and impactful as The Cosmic Shake, but that’s a borderline unfair comparison. That game was just a shocking breath of fresh air that caught everyone off guard. Titans of the Tide maintains the same core gameplay loop, adds just a few new elements here and there, and has a slightly more focused approach in its spooky (but not really) ambience. That being said, it’s still a fantastic platformer well worth your time, and much better than the majority of 3D platformers released over the past few years.
