The main pros of the game

  • Lore and Storytelling: Many users appreciate the rich lore and storytelling elements introduced through the Astral Rifts, which provide interesting narratives and choices that enhance role-playing potential.
  • Gameplay Mechanics: The addition of new mechanics, such as Astral Threads and unique relics, is seen as a positive change that adds depth to mid and late-game play. Players enjoy having something for their scientists to do after surveying is complete.
  • Variety and Replayability: The rifts offer varied outcomes based on player choices, which can lead to different experiences in each playthrough. Some players find the random nature of rifts exciting and engaging.
  • Quality of Life Improvements: Several new civics and technologies are viewed positively, with some players noting that they enhance gameplay.

The main cons of the game

  • Game-Breaking Mechanics: A significant number of reviews point to the "Dimensional Fleet" feature as being overpowered and disruptive to game balance, often leading to frustration during late-game conflicts.
  • High Price Point: Many users feel that the DLC is overpriced for the amount of content it offers, suggesting it should be purchased only during sales.
  • Repetitive Gameplay: Some players criticize the rifts as feeling like reskinned archaeology sites, leading to a sense of redundancy and predictability in gameplay.
  • Technical Issues: There are reports of bugs and issues that affect gameplay, including save problems and notifications that can become overwhelming.

The features or elements that are missing from the game according to users

  • More Content: Several reviews express a desire for more substantial content, arguing that the DLC feels thin and lacks the depth of previous expansions.
  • Gameplay Balance: Users suggest that the balance of new features, particularly the Dimensional Fleet, needs improvement to avoid making the game too easy or frustrating.
  • Quality of Life Enhancements: Some players wish for better integration of new mechanics into the overall game, indicating that the user interface and how players interact with new features could be improved.
  • Exploration Depth: A few users express disappointment that the Astral Rifts do not offer the ability to travel to other worlds or dimensions, limiting their potential as a gameplay feature.

Summary

  • Overall, while "Stellaris: Astral Planes" has its advocates who enjoy the added lore and mechanics, it also faces criticism for balance issues and perceived shortcomings in content and integration.
