An expansion for the popular 4X strategy from Paradox Interactive. Stellaris: Cosmic Storms introduces the titular storms which may appear in 8 different versions. They can influence the world and we can also try to use them to our advantage.
Stellaris: Cosmic Storms is an expansion to the space real-time strategy (RTS) game released in 2016. The add-on belongs to the grand strategy subgenre, and its aim is to expand on the topic of the titular space storms. Like the base version, the DLC was prepared by the Paradox Development studio, also known for the history focused Europa Universalis series.
In Stellaris: Cosmic Storms we are presented with a new approach to the natural elements. The expansion introduces eight types of galactic storms, including massive nexus storms and standard electrical discharges.They can have negative or positive effects, resulting in changes to the landscape, the ability to obtain resources, or the discovery of hidden treasures from the past.
Along with the new types of storms, the expansion enriches the game with a weather map mode, thanks to which we can predict the occurrence of storms, as well as their intensity. Stellaris: Cosmic Storms allows us to use technologies and buildings responsible for attracting, repelling or creating storms for our own purposes. The add-on brings in three new civics (including Astrometeorology) and one origin (Storm Chasers).
This expansion shares the gameplay modes with the original game. Thanks to this, single-player gameplay is available, as well as multiplayer mode (via the Internet).
Stellaris: Cosmic Storms is a non-standalone expansion and requires the base version of the game to operate.
