Stronghold Kingdoms is a strategic MMO game from a popular series called Stronghold. Similarly to those games, this one is also set in medieval Europe and was developed by Firefly Studios. The game is available on AND, PC and iOS and uses free-to-play model with optional microtransactions.
The gameplay in Stronghold Kingdoms focuses mainly on taking care of our kingdom, especially the titular stronghold. In order to gain advantage over our enemies we need to make quick decisions (real-time gameplay) and long-term plans. The way in which we increase our influence is up to us – we can decide to overthrown tyrants' rules and conquer strongholds that don't belong to anyone, have fights with neighbors, steal resources from our opponents or simply try to maintain peace on our lands and focus on economic development. Our kingdom can specialize in various fields, such as trade, diplomacy, espionage, agriculture or military. Regardless of the way in which want to play the game we need resources which we can get ourselves or trade with other players. We should also remember that every fortress can fall, and no stronghold is impenetrable.
In Stronghold Kingdoms, released on AND, PC and iOS, we can join one of a few European countries and the game nicely portraits a life in a medieval society based on feudal concept. Thanks to advanced diplomacy system we can join various political groups, create and break alliances, gradually increasing prestige and worth of our kingdom. The status of our alter ego in the entire kingdom depends on honor points. We can get them in a few ways, e.g. by carrying about our subordinates, holding banquets or winning fights. After getting enough points we can spend them on increasing our rank. The game has twenty-two ranks – from a village idiot to a prince and each rank offers us the access to new options and possibilities for development. Popularity is another important parameter. It depends on various factors such as taxes. If our popularity is higher, it is more likely that people will want to live in our lands.
A new feature, unavailable in other games from this series, are cards that grant us specific bonuses. Some of the cards can be acquired for free but most of them can be bought with real money. After paying a certain amount of money we get a set amount of virtual coins that can be spend on decks. They are divided into many categories: some of them increase production, others give advantage to our scouts or armies or they can be used once to increase our supplies. The developers also created a complex system of rankings and stats, which allows players to see who, e.g. is the best apple farmer in a particular day or who is the best fighting player of a month.
