Superfrog HD is a refreshed version of the classic platformer, which was released on PC and Amiga in the '90s of the last century. The project was developed by Team 17 studio, the same team that created the original.
The plot of the game is kept in a fairytale style. A long time ago, in the unspecified Enchanted Kingdom, lived a benevolent prince, his beloved, and repulsive witch. The latter did not like the idyll, so she decided to kidnap the future queen, and turned the ruler, who stubbornly rejected her feelings, into a frog. The prince would probably end up on a forgotten swamp, if not for a small accident. In a nearby stream, he found a magical elixir. After drinking it, he felt unbridled powers within himself. Without thinking long, the prince went to the meeting of destiny, deciding to end the witch once and for all.
Superfrog HD remains true to the mechanics found in most 2D platformers and the rules of the game are relatively simple. To complete a given stage, you need to collect a certain amount of coins (maximum 99 pieces) and find an exit. The task is made difficult by a large number of enemies, as well as thorns. Some monsters can be killed by jumping on them from above, others die from getting hit by a ball. Each contact with the opponent ends with the loss of energy of our hero. When the frog runs out of health, we lose one life. As befits a platformer, there is plenty of jumping and the levels are filled with treasures and secret rooms. The game is divided into six different lands, consisting of four smaller stages. After completing each of them, we go to the screen with a one-armed bandit, where we can win additional life, points or codes for each level.
The game offers all the content of the original Superfrog and a large set of new levels. What has changed the most is the graphics design. Designed from the ground up for high resolution, the console can display an interactive cartoon-like image instead of visible pixels. The authors have also added Achievements and a level editor to extend the fun.
