In 2019, two games debuted that allowed us to play as clay figures. We're talking about the full version of Supraball, a variation on football, and Supraland, an adventure action game with elements of metroidvania. This second one eventually got a sequel in the form of Supraland: Six Inches Under, and later another title developed by Supra Games under this brand followed in its footsteps, namely Supraworld.

Gameplay

In Supraworld we watch the action from the first-person perspective (TPP).

Rescuing a princess

During the game we take on the role of a clay figure who is a student of the Solver's guild, whose task is to solve puzzles that make life difficult for ordinary residents. In order to become a full member of this group, the protagonist must pass the exam and rescue the princess from a nearby castle.

Toy world

We explore a world built of toys and composed of a series of mutually connected locations. As we progress, we gain access to new equipment and skills that allow us to venture into places that would otherwise be inaccessible to us. While visiting them, we not only solve puzzles, but also face opponents.

Investigations

The puzzles are the main attraction here, while combat takes a backseat. Among the challenges for our gray cells, investigations shine, allowing us to track down murderers and put behind bars those we consider guilty.

The main cons of the game

  • Performance Issues: A significant number of reviews highlight poor optimization, particularly on lower-end hardware. Many players experience high VRAM and CPU usage, resulting in low frame rates and graphical glitches.
  • Unoptimized Unreal Engine 5 Features: The reliance on Unreal Engine 5's features (like Nanite and Lumen) is criticized for causing performance problems and visual artifacts, which detracts from the gameplay experience.
  • Lack of Cohesion: Some players feel that the level design lacks the coherence and engagement found in previous games, describing it as a collection of puzzles rather than a cohesive adventure.
  • Limited Reward System: Many reviews mention that rewards for solving puzzles often feel underwhelming, with upgrades and collectibles not providing a sense of accomplishment or empowerment.

  • Optimization Options: Players are requesting an ultra-low settings mode to improve performance on lower-end PCs and handheld devices, as many find the game unplayable on their systems.
  • Clearer Guidance for Puzzles: Some users feel that the game could benefit from better hints or guidance for puzzles, as they often found themselves confused about what was possible or how to proceed.
  • Improved Combat Mechanics: While combat is present, several players expressed a desire for it to be more engaging and rewarding, suggesting that it often feels like a distraction from the puzzle-solving experience.
  • Stronger Narrative: Some players miss the deeper storyline present in earlier titles, feeling that Supraworld lacks a compelling narrative thread to connect the puzzles and exploration.

Summary

  • Overall, while Supraworld has been well-received for its gameplay and humor, it faces criticism primarily for performance issues and a perceived lack of cohesion compared to its predecessors. Players are hopeful for improvements as the game continues to develop in early access.
