A third-person action RPG with an open world, inspired primarily by the Gothic series. Sword Hero takes us to a fantasy island of Wes, ruled by three different factions. We can explore the world, complete quests, fight opponents, develop our character and build our reputation.
The Gothic series has seen a number of imitators over the years. One of them is the action RPG described here, titled Sword Hero. It was created by the independent studio ForestWare.
In Sword Hero we view events from a third-person perspective (TPP).
The game takes us to a fantasy universe, specifically - to the island of Wes, which we can freely explore. Three factions divided a piece of land and we play as a character who tries to find a place for themselves, joining one of these groups or following their own path.
We explore the world, meet its inhabitants, complete quests, and also fight with opponents. On our path stand both ordinary enemies like gray-skinned ones, as well as much more powerful foes, namely giants and dragons.
The fights are dynamic, and during them the key to success is aiming at the weak points of the enemies. The combat system allows targeting specific body parts of enemies and severing their limbs. In doing so, attention should be paid to the condition of our character and the injuries they sustain, which over time may become infected.
As we progress, we develop the protagonist. Their appearance changes not only with the increase in statistics, but also under the influence of received damage (it's enough to say that a severed limb can be replaced with a prosthesis).
A measure of their development is also the increasingly better equipment (which we can provide for ourselves, for example by joining a certain faction), as well as an increasingly heavier purse (the money earned can be spent not only on gear and supplies, but also on buying our own house).
There is no level scaling here, and our reputation determines how NPCs react to us. They not only remember our actions, but also lead lives filled with daily routines. The icing on the cake are the changing weather conditions along with the daily cycle.
The graphic design of Sword Hero is maintained in a retro style, which evokes associations with the first part of the Gothic series.
