Hybrid twin-stick shooter and roguelike production, in which we play the battle android. Our task at SYNTHETIK is to stop an army of robots controlled by sinister Artificial Intelligence. The title allows you to play alone or to cooperate on the Internet.
SYNTHETIK is a twin-stick shooter enriched with roguelike elements. The game described herein was developed by an independent studio called Flow Fire Games - a small team from Berlin comprising three people.
In SYNTHETIK, the plot plays a rather secondary role. The game takes players to an alternative version of the world in 1985, when the Artificial Intelligence created by Kaida Corporation decided to destroy humanity with the help of an army of robots. The players assume the role of an android tasked with eliminating the machines spreading across consecutive levels inside the corporate headquarters.
In SYNTHETIK the players observe the action from the top-down perspective. Before starting the game, players choose one of the eight available character classes, which differ in terms of the preferred weapons and gear. During the game one gets to travel across procedurally generated maps and face various opponents. They can be eliminated with the use over eighty types of weapons (individual types of weapons come in many variations and are also subject to different modifications that increase their combat potential) and more than a hundred items that expand the range the protagonist's both offensive and defensive capabilities.
What is worth noting, the weapons may overheat or block when being fired. Moreover, as befits a game representing this genre, SYNTHETIK features the permadeath mechanics as well as it allows players to shoot their enemies in the head or actively reload their weapons (the player is rewarded for the perfect reload).
SYNTHETIK features a single player and an online 2-player cooperative modes. In addition, there are several difficulty levels to choose from (the higher one you choose, the more valuable prizes will be available for you to acquire).
SYNTHETIK features simple but colourful visuals in a cartoon-like style.

As with any roguelite, Synthetik: Ultimate requires an abundance of playthroughs in order to progress further into the game. Its overall length very much depends on your own commitment, but the strong gameplay is more than enough incentive to keep coming back, despite the poor menu system and less-than-stellar graphics. The addition of an Arena mode on top of the main ‘Citadel’ mode is welcome, though it doesn’t offer anything particularly new, so you’ll likely just stick to the main mode.

Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed Synthetik: Ultimate. The gameplay kept drawing me in again and again, the customization options kept me playing, and the difficulty, while brutal, was adjustable and made the game feel more rewarding overall. I really think there’s a little something for everybody in this game with the insane customization options. If you’re looking for something difficult that you can pick up and play whenever, definitely give Synthetik: Ultimate a shot. I don’t think you’ll be disappointed.
