In tower defense type productions, we most often defend our base using inanimate matter in the form of traps, towers and other fortifications. Tangy TD, the work of an independent developer using the pseudonym Cakez, approaches the matter a bit differently. The game allows you to take on the role of the titular witch, whose safety is taken care of by her allies (and herself). In addition, the whole thing is enriched with RPG elements.

Gameplay

In Tangy TD we view the battlefield in a top-down view. During the gameplay we move around the map and take an active part in the battle. In addition, we deploy allies whose task is to defend the witch from the invading enemies. The production throws against us both serial adversaries appearing in bulk, as well as big bosses.

The main cons of the game

  • Content Limitations: Several reviews mention that the game feels short, with limited main campaign content and a need for more maps, heroes, and enemies.
  • Difficulty Spikes: Many players note that the difficulty can spike unexpectedly, particularly in certain levels, leading to frustration and a reliance on grinding earlier levels for skill points.
  • Unbalanced Classes: The archer class is often viewed as overpowered compared to others, which may lead to a lack of incentive to use different classes effectively.
  • Complex Skill Tree: Some players find the skill tree overly complicated and frustrating, especially with a capped number of skill points that limits class upgrades.

  • Improved Balancing: Players are requesting better balancing for the different classes and a more gradual difficulty curve to avoid abrupt challenges.

Summary

  • Overall, while Tangy TD has been well-received for its engaging gameplay and the dedication of its developer, there are clear areas for improvement, particularly regarding content depth and balance.
