Tarisland is a free-to-play fantasy MMORPG, released on mobile devices and the PC. It was created by Tencent, a Chinese megacorp, one of the most profitable multimedia companies and the largest video game company in the world.
Moira, Leith and Acheron are primordial deities, who have witnessed the birth of the universe and the end of countless intelligent planets. They embody, respectively, destiny, oblivion and omen. When life is born on the titular planet of Taris, the deities end up at war with each other.
Acheron becomes the primary threat to developing life. Moira left behind guidance in the Inscription Stone for the mortals who oppose the God of Omen, who hid the will of Leith. The gods have never made peace, so new adventurers arise in Taris, intending to save their world from destruction.
Tarisland is an open world MMO tasking players with leveling up and fighting enemies. Each subsequent season offers new content and challenges, to keep players leveled equally and let them prove themselves in new adventures.
The game features several customaizable classes with two different specializations and over 40 perks. The playable races include elf (Ranger, Paladin, Mage, Bard), human (Warrior, Priest) and snowlion (Barbarian Fighter). They all have unique, preferred playstyles; Rangers perform best at range, while Warriors in melee combat.
After choosing our character, we can delve into the vast world of Taris, full of different biomes and diverse civilizations. We'll traverse cities, forests and desolate areas in search of quests. We'll also acquire valuable items used to customize and empower our character.
Enemies encountered along the way may prove to be very powerful, so we'll need good tactical sense and mighty allies. Tarisland features raids of differing difficulty and creative challenges in dungeons with random modifiers affecting gameplay. Each dungeon requires different strategy. The challenges can be undertaken alongside your team at any time, coordination being required for high scores.
The game features different seasons, supporting PvP and PvE. It's mostly focused on cooperation between party members, which is mandatory to succeed in difficult encounters.
Tarisland features 3D visuals, stylistically resembling such games as World of Warcraft. It also supports cross-platform functionality.
The moment the first trailer for Tarisland came out, players noticed its striking resemblance to World of Warcraft. Some have alleged the game copies parts of WoW, such as classes or locations. One of the game's producers, Yangming, responded to the criticism in an interview with VG247, claiming Tarisland is an original IP and the trailer's release date had nothing to do with the disabling of Chinese WoW servers.
