There Is No Game: Wrong Dimension is an original, humorous point-and-click adventure game that tries at all costs to convince us that... is not a game at all. The game was developed by an independent studio Draw Me A Pixel. The idea for this project was born in 2015, during one of the game jams (2015 Construct Jam). The prototype developed during it, entitled There Is No Game: Jam Edition 2015, was made available for free.

Plot

The main characters of There Is No Game: Wrong Dimension are... ourselves, that is, the players who decided to play the game, even though in every possible way it tried to discourage us from doing so. The reason is prosaic - according to the programme, it is not a video game, at least not in our dimension. When, however, despite strenuous requests on its part not to do so, we decide to start the game, we are finally transported to another reality and trapped in a kind of interdimensional loop, in which we jump between different versions of the production. From now on there is nothing left for us to do but... play, because this is the only way we can escape from the prison in which we are stuck at our own request.

Mechanics

Depending on which dimension we end up in, There Is No Game: Wrong Dimension may look like a classic The Legend of Zelda game or a point-and-click adventure game from the 1990s. In fact, however, this is primarily the adventure game, and our task here is to solve puzzles, which pushes the plot forward. The puzzles are unusual and inventive, so we have to think outside the box to solve them. They require us to use interface elements in an unconventional way or to act against logic and generally accepted rules. For example, a button that we have to tear out of the HUD, and then drop into the game world to cause a shock, or even the fact that by smashing the CRT screen, on which the action takes place for a while, we can look behind the scenes. As the solution to a puzzle is not always clear, the game includes a hint system.

There Is No Game: Wrong Dimension is full of jokes about the video game industry and references to other games (we can see here, among others, advertisements of such titles as SUPERCOLD or Please, Paper). The game also breaks the fourth wall at almost every step, addressing us directly.

Technical aspects

The graphic design of There Is No Game: Wrong Dimension is kept in a retro pixelart style. The gameplay is accompanied by the commentary of the game itself, which constantly discusses our actions (although it is usually horrified by them, from time to time it happens to praise us).
