Torn Away is a cross between a platformer and an adventure game with stealth elements. It was develoepd by an indie studio Perelesoq and published by Nordcurrent.
The story of Torn Away is based on diaries of children from the times of World War 2. Its protagonist is Asya, a ten-year old who became an Ostarbeiter after her home was destroyed. The first opportunity she gets, she escapes the labor camp. The player must lead her back home, to the east, as she struggles to survive.
Torn Away is a sidescroller. The player traverses various stages, destroyed cities, villages and the wild, looking for food and shelter from harsh weather. There are many obstacles to overcome and simple puzzles to solve. The protagonist is defenseless and must hide from enemy soldiers. Asya witnesses many tragic, traumatic experience on her journey, many of which we'll see in first-person, through her eyes.
Torn Away features a grim artstyle inspired by French animation and works of social realism.
