A third-person rail shooter, enriched with roguelike and tower defense mechanics. TurretGirls features a female protagonist controlling the titular turret moving on rails. She must use the turret to eliminate hordes of advancing enemies and to survive until the current attack is over.
The term "rail shooter" refers to productions in which we do not have direct control over the character's movements, and our role is reduced to aiming and conducting fire. TurretGirls, a work of the independent Japanese studio Nanairo Enterprise, can be described as a rail shooter in the literal sense. It was also enriched with elements known from tower defense and roguelike games.
TurretGirls allows us to play as a Girl, who belongs to the Planetary Alien Neutralization and Tactical Strike Unit (P.A.N.T.S.U.). In the face of a threat from space invaders, the protagonist has no choice but to take her place in a turret located on a moving platform on tracks. She must use the turret to fend off the attacks of enemy hordes until the generator powering the Superweapon, which is the last hope of humanity, is charged.
In TurretGirls the action is viewed from a third-person perspective (TPP).
The pillar of the gameplay is shooting at the enemy forces. Over the next few days, numerous and diverse units are marching towards us, among which we will find both "cannon fodder" and more powerful enemies serving as bosses. Our task is to stay alive until the end of a given attack.
As we progress, we accumulate resources that we use to purchase upgrades and modifications for our turret. Thanks to them, we can mount various types of weapons on it (from heavy machine guns to laser cannons) and stronger generators, as well as increase its defense factor.
The character we control is dressed in a skimpy outfit, and moreover, as time passes, her clothing gets damaged. This makes TurretGirls a production intended for adult audiences. As we progress, we unlock new clothing items that we can equip the Girl with, such as underwear and accessories.
The graphic design of TurretGirls was maintained in a manga style.
