The term "rail shooter" refers to productions in which we do not have direct control over the character's movements, and our role is reduced to aiming and conducting fire. TurretGirls, a work of the independent Japanese studio Nanairo Enterprise, can be described as a rail shooter in the literal sense. It was also enriched with elements known from tower defense and roguelike games.

TurretGirls allows us to play as a Girl, who belongs to the Planetary Alien Neutralization and Tactical Strike Unit (P.A.N.T.S.U.). In the face of a threat from space invaders, the protagonist has no choice but to take her place in a turret located on a moving platform on tracks. She must use the turret to fend off the attacks of enemy hordes until the generator powering the Superweapon, which is the last hope of humanity, is charged.

Gameplay

In TurretGirls the action is viewed from a third-person perspective (TPP).

Firing and upgrading the turret

The pillar of the gameplay is shooting at the enemy forces. Over the next few days, numerous and diverse units are marching towards us, among which we will find both "cannon fodder" and more powerful enemies serving as bosses. Our task is to stay alive until the end of a given attack.
