Release Date: September 10, 2019
An action RPG with slasher-style combat system, treated as a spin-off of the Utawarerumono series and based on Utawarerumono: Mask of Deception. In Utawarerumono: ZAN we play as Haku and his team as they fight to defend the land of Yamato.
Utawarerumono is a series of productions at the intersection of tactical RPGs and the visual novel genre, started in 2002 by the Leaf company. Utawarerumono: ZAN described here is a spin-off based on the second installment - Utawarerumono: Mask of Deception. The game was developed by the Aquaplus team and realized in the form of an action RPG with a combat system reminiscent of slashers.
In Utawarerumono: ZAN, events are viewed from a third-person perspective (TPP). Although the main character of the game is a man named Haku, we are given a range of other characters to choose from. We can form a team of up to four members, between whom we can switch freely.
The individual characters are differentiated in terms of skills, statistics, and strengths and weaknesses. Our choice is important because the core of the gameplay involves engaging in dynamic fights with opponents. The combat system emphasizes constant movement, avoiding enemy attacks, and chaining strikes into combos. Additionally, the key to success is selecting the appropriate formation and skillfully using the so-called Zeal, which powers Chain Attacks and devastating Final Strikes.
As we progress, we develop our characters, unlocking various enhancements for them and equipping them with increasingly better gear.
Utawarerumono: ZAN can be played solo or in online co-op mode.
Utawarerumono: ZAN tells the story of a hero named Haku, who suffers from amnesia and wakes up surrounded by a colorful team of warriors, princesses, scholars, and adventurers, led by Ukon. In their company, our protagonist travels through the fantasy land of Yamato, rescuing damsels, uncovering conspiracies, and thwarting the sinister plans of enemies.
The graphics in Utawarerumono: ZAN are maintained in a manga style.
