Vertical Drop Heroes HD is an original hybrid marrying elements of two-dimensional platformers, RPG, as well as roguelike. The title was developmed by the small, independent studio Nerdook Productions. Interestingly, the game has evolved from the world-wide popular browser game Vertical Drop Heroes and is a kind of its extensive remake.
A game of Vertical Drop Heroes HD starts with selecting the hero we are going to lead to battle. The protagonists were differentiated in terms of appearance, statistics, and special skills. The action is presented from the side, and while traversing successive randomly generated maps, battling opponents attacking from all sides is as important as jumping from platform to platform. Various locations await us - from picturesque forest areas, through gloomy castles, to underground caves.
In addition to standard opponents, such as undead or smaller monsters, giant bosses stand in our path. Defeating them requires not only a well-developed character but also the development of efficient tactics, taking into account, inter alia, the options offered by the fully destructible environment. The battles take place in real-time, and with subsequent victories, we gain experience points and advance to next levels. In this way, we get access to more and more powerful abilities, the most important of which is the ability to summon to the battlefield giant dragons that wreak havoc in the ranks of the enemy or oversized worms that are an indispensable help during the skirmishes. It is worth remembering that death is permanent in the game.
Vertical Drop Heroes HD can be played both solo and in the compan of others. Multiplayer mode enables us to have fun together over the Internet and on split screen (although the latter is not available on PlayStation Vita).
Two-dimensional visuals of Vertical Drop Heroes HD may find some fans - the whole thing is kept in an eye-catching, cartoonish style. The visual sphere is impressive, especially considering the fact that one person was responsible for developing the entire game.
