ARK Park is an exploration game designed exclusively for Virtual Reality headgear. The action of the game includes references to the popular online survival game called ARK: Survival Evolved. Developed by Peacock Studio in cooperation with Studio Wildcard, ARK Park, among other platforms, is available on PC and PS4.

Mechanics

ARK Park takes players to a near future, in which humans are capable of building a futuristic Jurassic park. Gameplay revolves around exploring the dinosaurs’ natural habitat – one can observe them while walking or riding a gigantic reptile. The locations one gets to explore are much diversified – there is a tropical jungle, snow-capped mountain peaks, and even vast steppes. During his journey, a player can use a camera to take pictures of spectacular landscapes and (sometimes) the enormous creatures, solve relatively simple puzzles, and learn about over 100 dinosaur species – their genes serve as collectibles including additional information on the given species available in the park’s main hall.

PlayStation Universe: 5 / 10 by John-Paul Jones

An unevenly executed mish-mash of ARK's cornerstone components, ARK Park shows some promise but is ultimately too flawed and poorly constructed to be recommended to anyone but wide-eyed, dino-hungry youngsters.

Geeks Under Grace: 5 / 10

ARK Park does what it sets out to do with a VR experience that complements ARK: Survival Evolved's world. It is just too bad that there is a lack things that you can do and interact with before getting bored. Hopefully, the updates Snail has planned will change that.

Use a Potion: 4.5 / 10

Whilst the potential is there for ARK Park to be a remarkable virtual reality experience, it instead falters thanks to a poor control scheme, blurry visuals, and underwhelming gameplay mechanics. I can’t help but to feel that if the developers focused more on fleshing out the exploration mechanics they could’ve had something special, but instead gamers are simply given a small selection of areas that grow old fast and some incredibly lacking shooting mechanics that offer nothing fresh outside of the dinosaur foes. It’s disappointing. Add to that the high price and it becomes increasing difficult to recommend giving ARK Park a purchase. It isn’t the worst game you’re going to play on the PlayStation VR and it does have its moments where it can shine, but it’s difficult to describe it as anything other than very disappointing.
