Warfare in video games is not infrequently presented from a perspective other than that of a soldier or commander. The group of exceptions includes Poland' s This War of Mine and the clearly modeled on it War Angels, a survival strategy game from Indonesia-based independent Leolit Games, inspired by real-life events.
In War Angels, we view events from the side. During the gameplay, we play the role of a hospital administrator operating in a war zone. Our task is to save patients and take care of the staff and maintain the facility. As you can guess, all this is not easy when bombs are falling all around and we have severely limited resources.
Problems with the availability of medicine, food and drink, as well as the ever-present fear and sadness, force us to make difficult decisions that are morally ambiguous. It is up to us to decide who we save first, risking the life of another in need. The choices we make affect the course of the story and its ending.
It doesn't stop there, as the situation we find ourselves in forces us to create improvised tools and medicines. When we have no choice, we can send members of the staff on a search for valuable resources, although in doing so we expose them to mortal danger. Morale also plays an important role, as it must be remembered that not only patients suffer, but also doctors and volunteers.
