Release Date: May 23, 2014
The fifth installment in the popular series of economic strategy games developed by studio Haemimont Games, which is responsible for the franchise since the third entry in the series. The game makes the player a leader of a small tropical island, responsible for governing it all the way from the colonial age through modern times and to the near future. Your tasks will be, as usual, to develop the city and take care of its industry and economy.
Tropico 5 for PC, PS4 and etc. is another installment of the series of economic strategy games, in which the player becomes the ruler of a banana republic. Similarly as the two previous entries, the fifth game was created by Haemimont Games.
Traditionally for the series, Tropico 5 for PC, PS4 and etc. allows the player to become the leader of a small nation on an island. His task is to lead the people from the colonial age, through the XX century, to the modern times, and not distant future. In the meantime, one must survive both world wars, the great crisis and the cold war. Each age brings different challenges and creates unique opportunities.
The core of the game is the same as in previous games – the player becomes "El Presidente", and his priority is to keep his position as the leader of the nation. His duties include improving the city, taking care of its industry and economy, mitigating the effects of natural disasters, reacting to needs of his people and demands of political factions (not necessarily in a democratic way), defeating the opposition, and keeping diplomatic relations with neighbors. Then, there is an advanced trading system (including the maritime trade), a technological development tree, and elements of exploration. Early in the game, it is a good idea to send researchers deep into the island in search for new minerals and depots. However, they must beware of wild animals, and hostile local inhabitants of the island.
The possibility to create your own dynasty is a new feature in the series. Members of the royal family can become not only the leaders, but also the managers of many factories and companies on the island. As time passes they will gain experience and become better in serving their duties. Of course, having your own people hold the key seats is very helpful in seizing the power in your hands.
The look of the cities in Tropico 5 changes along the changing epochs. The developers made sure to create an authentic look of changing times, and each era has differently looking buildings.
In addition to the solo game, for the first time in the series Tropico 5 for PC, PS4 and etc. offers a multiplayer mode for up to four players. The players can build their own cities on one island. The decision whether they will cooperate and help each other, or rather compete and wage wars, is entirely up to them.
