The project was developed by Complex Games, a studio known for The Horus Heresy: Drop Assault game set in the same universe. According to the title, the game refers to Warhammer 40,000: Chaos Gate, released in 1998.
Action of the game is set in the world of Warhammer 40,000. It tells the story of space marines from the Grey Knights order. During the game we take command over Demon Hunters who were sworn to eradicate chaos from the Empire of Man.
The story focuses on a conspiracy, which aims to infect many worlds with a galactic plague known as The Bloom. For fans of the brand, a big advantage is the fact that Aaron Dembski-Bowden, the writer with many books set in the Warhammer 40,000 universe, is responsible for the game's script.
Warhammer 40,000: Chaos Gate - Daemonhunters is a tactical RPG, so the gameplay focuses on small-scale skirmishes. Battles are turn-based, and players can use multiple character classes and a large selection of weapons.
The key role is played by making use of environmental elements, and the game is made more interesting thanks to enemies mutating during the battles. There is also a development system which allows to improve characters' stats and unlock new abilities.
Game offers only single player mode, allowing us to play extensive story campaign.
