Warplanes: WW1 Fighters is the third arcade flight simulation developed by the independent Polish studio Home Net Games. In contrast to previous games of this developer, this time we are dealing with a game prepared for virtual reality sets.

Plot

Warplanes: WW1 Fighters allows us to take part in the most important battles of World War I. The game includes two campaigns in which we stand on the side of the Central Powers and one in which we fight for the Entente countries. Each of them consists of missions varied both in terms of the goals we set for ourselves and the locations or seasons and time of day in which we have to fight in the skies.

Mechanics

In Warplanes: WW1 Fighters the action is observed from a first person perspective (FPP). As the game was developed with VR headsets in mind from the start, it takes full advantage of their capabilities. By moving your head, you look around the cockpit, and by using motion controllers, you operate the aircraft yourself, manipulating switches or even dropping bombs on enemy positions or firing a gun at barrage balloons.

The game allows us to choose the control mode. Experienced pilots can use the realistic option, in which the flight model is based on the laws of aerodynamics, or try their hand at real war mode, where you have to take off and land on your own, the stability and behaviour of the plane in the air is affected by its damage and various forces and effects, enemies are smarter and behave more aggressively, while the HUD is completely disabled. Beginners should start with the recreation mode, where you can focus solely on the fast-paced and spectacular action.

Missions are about fighting in the skies against enemy fighters, destroying enemy bombers, bombing ground targets, fighting against naval forces and defending cities and bases from bombing raids, among other things. By completing them, we earn money which we can spend on buying new planes and upgrading those we already own..

You should also make sure that your hangar contains as many different types of aircraft as possible, as this will ensure that no task is too difficult for you. For example, while the fast Junkers D.II is perfect for battling sluggish bombers, the agile Fokker Dr.I is designed for dynamic aerial combat, while the Airco DH.2's strong point is its open cockpit, which allows you to get to grips with the airborne situation at a glance and provides you with an incredible flight experience.

Game modes

In addition to the single player campaign, Warplanes: WW1 Fighters has an extensive multiplayer module, in which we can face other pilots in modes such as deathmatch, team deathmatch and last man standing (where the last surviving player wins). Apart from that, a number of missions prepared for playing in cooperation mode are waiting for us to check out.

Technical aspects

Warplanes: WW1 Fighters features eye-catching graphics. The cockpits of the planes, which were designed with great precision, draw attention, but some of the landscapes are also appealing. The game requires both virtual reality goggles and motion controllers.
