We Who Are About To Die is an action RPG. Most of our time is therefore spent fighting. Battles in arenas are heavily arcade. The game offers an advanced battle system, in which we can freely control the directions of attacks, and everything is governed by an extensive physics engine, taking into account such elements as the weight of weapons and the momentum of the blows.

Skirmishes are very diverse. We often have to fight against large groups of opponents, and many arenas are filled with deadly traps. An important role is also played by winning the sympathy of crowds and rich patrons willing to support our career. Winning, therefore, is not always enough - in order to achieve optimal results, we must also ensure that these triumphs are impressive.

As befits an RPG, victories allow you to develop your character's stats and unlock new abilities, while the money from victories allows you to buy increasingly better equipment. The player also has the opportunity to organize training for his character or buy information about rivals and upcoming skirmishes with bribes. The game is varied by random events.

All this is enriched with roguelike elements. Each death is final and forces you to start the game from scratch with a new gladiator. Many of the career elements are determined randomly, so each approach offers fresh challenges.
