A survival game where we find ourselves in a deserted archipelago. Playing the role of a warrior named Kara, in Windbound we not only fight for survival but also travel between the islands on a self-constructed boat and explore their numerous secrets.
Windbound is a survival game enriched with elements taken from such genres as RPG, adventure and even roguelike games. The game was developed by the independent team of 5 Lives Studios, which previously created a warm welcome for Satellite Reign, and was released by Deep Silver.
The main character of Windbound is a warrior named Kara. During a massive storm, the heroine is separated from her tribe and ends up in a desert archipelago known as the Forbidden Islands. Although from now her main goal is to survive in this picturesque, yet not very friendly corner of the world, with time she starts to discover the ruins of the civilization that inhabited him centuries ago, as well as explore his numerous secrets.
In Windbound we observe the action from the third person perspective (TPP). The authors give us a vast open world consisting of various islands. Interestingly, the map is generated procedurally, so it looks different every time you start playing.
Our primary goal during the game is to survive. When travelling on Forbidden Islands, Kara must not only feed herself, but also obtain a variety of raw materials. The materials are needed both to create new tools and weapons (like a bow or spear to hunt animals or defend against their attacks) and to build new boats and improve existing ones. Although at the beginning of the struggle the heroine has only a small boat, over time she gets access to larger and more advanced units, which are not afraid of hurricanes, high waves and even aggressive sea animals.
This way, as Kara progresses, she can venture into more and more distant islands. On each of them the girl will find a different fauna and flora, sources of new raw materials and numerous ruins. The ruins hide the answers for questions about the archipelago's past and future and are the key to finding its way back home.
The three-dimensional graphics of Windbound is maintained in a colorful, cartoon-like style reminiscent of the bestselling The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.

Game Ratings for Windbound Video Game.
Windows Central: 4 / 5 by Rebecca Spear
Windbound was most definitely inspired by Zelda: Breath of the Wild, but with a much heavier focus on survival and crafting. If you enjoy survival games and want something to scratch that Zelda itch, you should check this game out.
TheSixthAxis: 6 / 10 by Jim Hargreaves
The barriers that Windbound puts up makes it a tough game to enjoy, at least initially. It will take time to appreciate what it brings to the survival genre with its clever boat-building and authored open world action, though these smart nuances often go hand-in-hand with tedious, sometimes frustrating stretches of playtime.
PlayStation Universe: 6 / 10 by Joe Apsey
Windbound is a serviceable survival game that offers a unique sailing experience to keep hardcore fans of the genre interested. But with simplistic and bland-feeling combat and an experience that doesn't engage with its narrative (despite promising to), Windbound isn't recommended at full price.
