After 8 Years, Elite Players Discovered Less Than 1% of the Galaxy

The Milky Way created in Elite Dangerous is as monstrous as it is in reality - millions of players over 8 years have discovered just a fraction of a percent of the game's entire world. Fans of the brand are delighted by this fact.

Elite Dangerous, a game by Frontier Developments, is regularly played by thousands of players who vigorously explore the virtual cosmos in order to colonize planets. Today we learned that the fan community, within 8 years of its release on PC, has discovered only a fraction of a percent of the galaxy recreated in the game. Player reactions express awe as well as joy.

The world of Elite Dangerous is a great mystery

The latest stats were shared by the developers on Twitter. According to them, the vast space created for the game actually may not differ in size from the original Milky Way. In fact, players have discovered only 0.059% of the entire a galaxy featured in the game in 8 years. It should be noted that the title offers crossplay, so regardless of the platform (PC, Xbox One or PS4) all players (which total at approx. 18 million, of which 150-200 thousand log in daily) are playing on one common server.

It is worth noting that the Milky Way, which is reflected in the game, has a finite size (you can reach the end of the map), but all the planets are procedurally generated. However, the expedition to the end of the map is a major undertaking, which, according to player calculations would take at least 600 hours. The game world offers more than 400 billion star systems to explore - as many as there actually are in our galaxy, according to scientists. This gives a great picture of the monstrous scale of the cosmos - both in reality and in the game.

Also in the past, the developers have published data on the part of the cosmos that the players have discovered. For example, in January 2022 it was only0.05%. So gamers still have many millions of kilometers of space to explore. Unfortunately, 2022 also turned out to be a sad year for the game's console community - the developers have limited updates for Elite Dangerous on these platforms only to fixing bugs. New content is and will only be added to the PC version.

Players are overjoyed

Within a dozen hours, the post of the developers received many comments and even more likes. Players agree that the information about the discovery of a negligible part of the world is undoubtedly good news. Here are some of them:

"Compared to last year: +14,136,319 systems +0.009%. Oh my...," wrote Saphaia

"My respect and admiration for this wonderful game. Also for its creator and all who work on it. I will not stop playing and discovering this game even on Xbox," declares Jose Antonio Guardia

"Yay, I was waiting for this thanks. We are lazy though, we haven't even discovered another 0.01% in a yearm," wrote David Neal
