Exploring Alone in the Dark without a map may be difficult. In this guide we will tell you how to get and use it.
Being Alone in the Dark may be scarry, but even scarier is being without a map. If you are here, it means that you want to access your map in this reimagination of 1992 classic. We will tell you how to get the map and use it.
Regardless of your character choice, you will not enter Derceto mansion through the main door. You have to go around. The map is not available from the start. After passing the garden and kitchen, you will be able to climb the stairs. Enter the opened room on your left. There, on the wall, is a board with a map. Take it and from now on you can use it whenever you wish… Well… not really, but about that we will tell in the section below.
Using the map in Alone in the Dark is not very intuitive, as even when you check the keybindings, there is no such thing as a map key.
If you want to see where you are, you have to use Investigation key. If you don’t know which one, try I on keyboard (you can change it) or View Button on Xbox controller (the one with squares). If you just press it, you will be taken to your equipment, it is an important place because it contains all necessary items and notes, you can check the map from there. However, it is also possible to open the map directly, just hold the key a little bit longer.
You need to remember though that the map is not always available. It works only at Derceto. If you try to use it in the nightmarish dimension (locations with enemies), you will be welcomed by “Your map is of no use here” message. Luckily, these places are more or less linear, so you should not be lost, at least not for a long time.
