Collectibles in Alone in the Dark are very important. They are called Lagniappes and can influence the game.
Alone in the Dark is a reimagination of the game from 1992. The title is not a simple remake or remaster, as it introduces substantial changes. When you try to solve various mysteries, you may find many collectibles on your way, they are called Lagniappes (small gifts in Luisiana French). These items enrich lore and can have a very direct impact on the gameplay, as they sometimes unlock important features.
Collectibles in Alone in the Dark are not for achievements. They can influence the game quite much. For example, after collecting Lost Children set, you can unlock a shotgun. What is more, thanks to Lagniappes you can learn more about the surrounding world. It is not their only purpose though. Some collectibles can guide you to the new endings. So, if you want to see everything what the game has to offer, you must hunt them.
However, to find all Lagniappes, you will have to complete the game at least twice, as characters gather different collectibles during their stories. If you want to know more about differences between playthroughs, read a separate guide.
