Battlefield 4 Revives; 100 People in Server Queue After BF 2042 Announcement

The reveal of Battlefield 2042 caused an explosion in the popularity of Battlefield 4. Many other installments in the series have also seen an increase in interest.

The announcement of Battlefield 2042 turns out to have had a beneficial effect on the popularity of previous installments. It is particularly visible in the case of Battlefield 4. On Reddit, fans report full servers of the console version and 100-player queues waiting for a chance to take part in the game.

A similar surge of interest has been recorded on Steam, where Battefield 4 set a new activity record two days ago at 11,801 players. Looking at the charts clearly shows that the popularity of BF4 began to grow rapidly from the moment the latest installment of the series was revealed. It is worth remembering here that the game debuted on Valve studio's website only on June 11 last year.

Battlefield 4 is the closest in terms of setting to Battlefield 2042, so it's not surprising that in anticipation of the release players decided to revisit this particular game. The current population of BF4 players on Steam is 245.1% higher than in May this year.

This is not the only installment, which benefits from the announcement of Battlefield 2042. Yesterday, at the hottest moment of the day, Battlefield V was played by 19,956 people on Steam, which is only three thousand lower than the game's activity record set a few months ago. BF5 was also the eighth biggest bestseller last week on Valve's service.

The situation looks similar with Battlefield 1. Two days ago, the game set a new activity record on Steam (14,904 simultaneous players). Even Battlefield 3 recorded an increase in its online population by 140% compared to the situation a month ago. So you can clearly see that fans of the series are excited about the announcement of a new installment and this causes them to return to older games.

Battlefield 2042 is coming to PC, PlayStation 4, PS5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S. The release will take place on October 22, 2021.
