Blizzard Delivers Bad News About Diablo 4; New Character Each Season or No Rewards

Diablo brand director Rod Fergusson made a key announcement ahead of the start of the first season of the fourth installment. Unfortunately, it will not please many players.

More than two weeks have already passed since its debut of Diablo IV. The latest installment of the series appealed to players with its rich story campaign and various side activities. However, that's not all. Soon we will see the start of the first gameplay season.

The black scenario has come true

Although the official date for the season launch has not yet been revealed (although there are rumors of July), an important piece of information has hit the web, and it was feared by many players.

It turns out that joining each season in Diablo IV will require players to create a character from scratch. Without this, they will not be able to gain more levels of the combat pass and climb the seasonal ranking. This information was shared by the brand's CEO, Rod Fergusson, in response to a question from a journalist.

"Hey Paul, yes to take part in the seasonal questline, mechanics, season journey and battle pass, you will need to create a new seasonal character. Playing campaign with seasonal character (if you so desire or need to finish) will also progress the season journey and battle pass," the developer's response reads.

Player dissatisfaction

When analyzing the comments under the above post, it is clear that not everyone liked this information. It's hardly surprising, by the way. Reaching the maximum level in Diablo IV is not an easy task. A large number of players have spent a lot of time levelling up their characters. It's safe to say that many people won't be interested in starting over with a new character just to have to level up again, but also to repeat much of the same content they've already played through.

However, it is worth noting that this system is nothing new in Diablo. This type of solution was already present in the third installment. As a result, the biggest voices of dissatisfaction are heard from newcomers to the world of Sanctuary.

Below you can read some sample statements.

"As a newcomer to the seasonal Diablo. This sucks. All the effort in creating my current characters is for nothing?," asks @RebelScumn.

"This is basically my first Diablo, but I'm disappointed that I can't focus on my main character to progress through the seasons like we do in Destiny. True, I will learn about other classes in the process, but at the expense of my primary character. The way I play doesn't allow for both," writes @penandpapertony.

"There's no way this would work with most players. I hope you have a plan B in case the number of participants drops by 90%," commments @miketheitguy.

A word of clarification

In response to the comments posted under the text, it should be clarified that players are complaining about the form of gameplay imposed on them by Blizzard (read: new character each season). As rightly pointed out by our reader - MarioAleWLewo - the battle pass is a paid option and common in many other games, however, unlike the competition, Blizzard introduces a rather cumbersome (due to the extensiveness of Diablo IV) rules that the community does not like. As I mentioned earlier, in D3 there was a similar solution, but it was a much smaller title and, in addition, it did not have a paid battle pass.
