Even though we live in times when access to the Internet is more common than ever, there are still people who, due to various reasons, can’t (or simply don’t want to) use it freely. Despite that, more and more games require internet connection. We don’t mean solely multiplayer titles (for which it’s completely understandable); singleplayer productions which do not feature any online components need it, too. What about the recently released Black Myth: Wukong? Does it follow the trend of being always online or does it allow for offline play? The answer is actually not that simple, so let’s dive deeper into this matter.

Is being online required to play Black Myth Wukong?

As previously mentioned, it is not very straightforward to explain if Black Myth Wukong can be played offline as the answer is “yes”… and “no”, at the same time. Almost like light, it can be in two states simultaneously. The thing is that this game requires connection to the Internet from time to time, yet not constantly. The reason for it is the fact that this title incorporates Denuvo anti-tampering software to hold off piracy.

It is really hard to tell how often this production requires internet connection, as it can vary for different titles. For sure it requires being online while launching it for the very first time, but also after each patch that is released by the developers. And patches it requires, as there are issues with frame drops, crashes, out of memory errors, and audio, to name a few, but I digress.

There is a silver lining, however, as there is a small chance that eventually Denuvo will be removed from Black Myth Wukong and getting rid of it should make the game no longer require internet connection at all. Till (and if) that is done, though, and before more updates are applied, we can battle numerous performance problems (which this anti-tamper software is believed to cause) by, for example, adjusting the slider for Super Resolution option.

Being online isn’t always a bad thing. For example, incorporating co-op could still help many fans, like it did in Dark Souls series, even though the game is not as challenging as some other soulslikes. For now, you are more than welcome to check out a guide that we have prepared. You may also want to reconsider the choice of device that you use to play it, however be careful as there are issues with PS5 controller on PC. Good luck!
