CDP Terminates Contract With Model Builder Devs; Demands Game and DLC Pulled From Sale

The developers of Model Builder have received a termination notice from CDP, under which characters from The Witcher 3 and Cyberpunk 2077 made their way into the game. CDP demands not only the removal of the DLC, but also the entire game from sale.

Last year, a nice game about assembling and painting model kits added characters from The Witcher 3 and Cyberpunk 2077. Model Builder, as the game in question is called, received in October a paid DLC, which added figurines of Geralt, Yennefer, Ciri, as well as Johnny Silverhand and Alt. Unfortunately, the future of the DLC, as well as the game as a whole, has now become uncertain.

CD Projekt has terminated the contract with the developers of Model Builder, i.e. Moonlit Games (via StockWatch.pl [in Polish]). As the announcement reads:

"The termination of the agreement was submitted with immediate effect due to what CDP believes to be a flagrant breach of the agreement by the company, despite a prior summons. According to information obtained by the company, the termination is related to a breach involving the failure of former CEO Jakub Rozenk to correct errors in the sales report on DLC sales for 2022 Q4."

Developers of Model Builder are not in a good position, as CDP is demanding not only the payment of royalties, but also pulling both the DLC in question and the game itself, from sale. Moonlit pointed out that such a decision is unfounded, as CDPR does not own the rights to Model Builder, moreover, "the DLC was sold separately and its withdrawal from sale could not have any impact on the withdrawal from sale of the game."

So far Model Builder and DLC with characters from The Witcher and Cyberpunk can still be purchased (if only on Steam). Moonlit Games is expected to try to negotiate with CDP to renew the contract or for the other party to rescind the termination.
