Death's Door With Great Reviews; Small Raven Wins Players' Hearts

Death's Door collects very good reviews after launch. Acid Nerve's game will appeal to every fan of isometric action games with RPG elements. Charming visuals encourage to get acquainted with this title.

IN A NUTSHELL:
  • Released on July 20, Death's Door receives ratings in the range of 8-9/10;
  • Critics and players agree on the game's original visuals, convenient combat system and pleasant difficulty level;
  • The game is available on PC, Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S.

Released yesterday by Devolver Digital, the new game by Acid Nerve (creators of Titan Souls) is an isometric action game with RPG elements, in which we play as a raven dealing with finding the souls of the dead in a world behind the mysterious Gate. One day, everyday life of the little raven protagonist is disturbed by the actions of a thief, who steals one of the souls. The adventure that awaits us is laced with plenty of black humor, and the memorable characters we encounter along the way.

Death's Door strongly resembles the games of Supergiant Games. While exploring the levels we'll encounter many opponents, battled using a short sword and magic ranged attacks. The protagonist will have the ability to dodge attacks with the help of rolls known from similar games. We'll have to fight monsters resembling oversized frogs, wraiths or mechanical castles that shoot lasers. In the locations through which we'll travel we'll also encounter bosses with unique behaviors and attacks.

The game gets high marks. On Metacritic, the score fluctuates between 87/100 and 92/100, and on OpenCritic the average of dozens of reviews is 89/100 points. Players and reviewers so far have spoken highly of Death's Door. You can check out some of the critics' reviews below:

Game Informer - Marcus Stewart - 9 / 10

"Death's Door presents a compelling world begging to be explored until every secret is found alongside satisfying combat and intriguing lore."

GamePressure - Giancarlo Saldana - 9.5 / 10

"Death’s Door may be a game about death but it very much thrives thanks to its smart level design and rewarding combat system. You definitely feel accomplished after completing a dungeon or beating a boss – and that feeling follows you until the end."

GameSpot - Alessandro Barbosa - 8 / 10

"Tight, challenging combat and a gorgeous world to explore makes the morbid act of reaping souls a delight in Death's Door."

Hardcore Gamer - Kyle LeClair - 4.5 / 5

"Death's Door is a gem of a soulslike game with a nice and meaty level of challenge and a world filled with lovable characters and loads of secrets to uncover."

Worth Playing - Andreas Salmen - 8.2 / 10

"Overall, Death's Door is a success. It's a short but entertaining and combat-heavy Zelda-like action-adventure that is only limited by scope. It might not have the most memorable puzzles or dungeons, but it has enough heart and skill to make up for its few, minor missteps."

Death's Door is available since July 20, 2021 on PC, Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S.
